I am a maritime and transport solicitor with more than 30 years’ experience advising on dispute resolution across shipping, carriage of goods by sea and road, logistics and marine insurance matters.
I act for clients in High Court proceedings and London arbitration, as well as helping resolve disputes through negotiation, mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
How I help
Clients usually come to me when a transport or maritime dispute needs clear, specialist advice.
That might involve goods carried by sea or road, a charterparty dispute, a General Average issue, a shipbuilding dispute, or a related marine insurance matter. A dispute may already be heading towards litigation or arbitration, or it may still be at a stage where a negotiated resolution is possible.
I adopt a commercial approach helping clients understand their legal position, assess the best route forward and resolve the matter as effectively and economically as possible.
I also advise hauliers and transport operators on their standard conditions of business, helping them make sure their terms of business are clear, appropriate, fit for purpose and contractually incorporated.
Where I add value
A lot of my work sits at the point where specialist transport law, commercial reality and dispute strategy meet.
Having worked in London and Hong Kong, I bring a broad experience of shipping litigation and international transport disputes. I am used to working on matters where the factual background is complex, the detail matters, and the commercial stakes can be high.
As a Civil and Commercial Mediator, registered with the Civil Mediation Council, I also understand the value of resolving disputes swiftly through negotiation without unnecessary escalation, and will promote that course where appropriate.
Experience
After qualifying with a maritime firm in the City of London, I practised in Hong Kong for a number of years, gaining broad experience in shipping litigation before returning to practise in the City of London.
I joined TKTL Solicitors in 2014 and have worked with Tim Knight since 2001.
I am a supporting member of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association. I have also lectured on the CMR Convention and the international carriage of goods by road at Lloyd’s Maritime Academy.

My approach
I take a clear, practical and commercially focused approach.
Transport and maritime disputes often involve technical detail, tight timescales and significant commercial pressure. My role is to cut through the complexity, identify the issues that matter and help clients make informed decisions about the best way forward. Such disputes often have an international element and we work with, and for, professional colleagues across Europe as well as further afield.
Where a dispute needs to be fought, I will help clients prepare properly. Where it can be resolved through negotiation or mediation, I will help clients explore that route sensibly and pragmatically.
