Corporate Lawyer
I am a seasoned solicitor with 10+ years of M&A work at law firms in London and Paris followed by 20 years as a general counsel of a number of multinational organizations. These have included listed companies, some privately held and others owned by private equity.
My work as a general counsel has been diverse – it has involved most areas of the law and jurisdictions on all five continents. Saying that, my core expertise sits in the corporate and commercial domains with a significant part of my time working for technology businesses.
In addition to legal matters, I have been responsible for establishing legal teams, creating and enhancing governance and compliance structures and taking responsibility for risk and other corporate functions such as procurement and real estate. Time spent as a director and board member of several organizations has allowed me to add value from business and legal perspectives.
I see my role akin to that of a medical general practitioner. I am the first port of call for business legal issues some of which I will be able to “treat” quickly, efficiently and cost effectively – particularly corporate and commercial matters. For more significant issues, I know the right questions to ask to ensure that I can make a referral to the appropriate specialist and add additional value by managing the relationship and interactions with that specialist (saving my clients fees and time). I am always happy to have an initial conversation to see if I can assist and think that most clients would benefit from an annual review (a legal business medical) to ensure their businesses are in the “best health” they could be.
Outside work, I like spending time with my wife, two boys (now men), dogs and participating in outdoor activities particularly on the water and in the mountains.
